47. The Matrix of Pain: Living in Conflict

A Journey to Synchronous Life

The psychological pain we experience is often the result of an unseen conflict within us. It is a tug-of-war between two opposing forces: the truth-seeking impulse and the pleasure-seeking impulse. These forces are constantly battling for dominance in our lives. Yet, in the midst of this conflict, we rarely see the truth or the pleasure-seeking impulses clearly; instead, we only experience the pain—the emergence of this inner battle.

Pain becomes the matrix in which we live, a cycle we cannot seem to escape. We get caught in this loop of discomfort and confusion, constantly seeking pleasures but rarely finding clarity. As we continue to explore our role in this matrix of pain leading to pleasures, we start recognizing the limits of our perception.

Perceiving the Boundaries of the Outer World

Our minds are accustomed to perceiving the world in boundaries. Everything we see—objects, people, situations—has a form and a boundary. The moment we perceive something, we instinctively define its limits. Without boundaries, our minds struggle to comprehend or process information. We need these boundaries to make sense of the outside world.

But there’s a critical realization here: nothing is permanent. The form does not keep its integrity. Everything is in a constant state of flux—changing, dissolving, reappearing in different forms. Yet our ignorant minds cling to these forms, seeking permanence in what is fleeting. We attach ourselves to fixed shapes and ideas, both externally and internally, despite the fact that these boundaries are continuously evolving.

Shaping Our Inner World Through Stories

Just as the mind uses boundaries to make sense of the outer world, it uses stories to shape our inner world. Stories give form to our thoughts, emotions, and experiences, allowing us to interpret the inner chaos and turn it into something meaningful. These stories act as boundaries within our inner world, providing a framework through which we understand ourselves and our relationship to the outer world.

But the challenge arises when the ignorant mind fails to recognize that the inner and outer worlds are interconnected. The stories we create internally are not separate from the reality we experience externally. The inner and outer are part of a single continuum. What we perceive inwardly shapes what we experience outwardly, and vice versa. However, most of us are blind to this connection.

Cutting Off the Outer Stimuli to Understand the Inner

To overcome this ignorance, the mind needs to cut off the constant stimuli from the outer world. Only by disconnecting from external distractions can we begin to perceive the inner story more clearly. When we silence the outer noise, we start to hear the thoughts and narratives that shape our inner world. But this process requires discipline and sustained effort.

Through the practice of cutting off stimuli for an extended period, we become more sensitive to the relationship between the inner and outer worlds. We begin to notice how the stories we tell ourselves are reflected in our outer reality. The more disciplined we are in this practice, the more sensitive we become to this relationship, and the more we understand the unity between inner and outer experiences.

Merging the Inner and Outer Realities

The journey is one of increasing sensitivity, allowing us to see that the boundaries between the inner and outer worlds are illusions. The inner stories we tell shape the outer reality we experience, and as we become more attuned to this dynamic, the inner and outer become one.

When we reach a state of heightened awareness, we no longer see a divide between the two. Our entire life becomes synchronous. We begin to operate from a place where the boundaries between our thoughts, stories, and external shapes dissolve, leaving us with a sense of unity. In this state, the conscience perceives the oneness of everything—our inner narrative, our external world, and our experience of life itself become a single, integrated reality.

Conclusion:

The matrix of pain, confusion, and delusion is only a temporary phase in the journey of awareness. By increasing our sensitivity and aligning our inner stories with the ever-changing outer world, we move toward a state where the boundaries dissolve, and everything becomes one. This is where true clarity and peace are found—a state where the conflict between truth-seeking and pleasure-seeking resolves into a harmonious understanding of life as it is.
